The election of the 2022/2023 West Point Grey Community Centre Association Board of Directors happened on Feb 16, 2022. The online event proceedings included a special guest presentation: “The Future of Point Grey Village” by Jean Baird of the Friends of Point Grey Village and Christina DeMarco, the former lead planner for the Metro Vancouver Regional Growth Strategy.

About the presenters
Jean Baird
Baird is founder and Chair of Friends of Point Grey Village. She holds a PhD in literature and has worked as professor, editor and researcher. She has extensive experience with national campaigns. She spearheaded BC BookWorks, which successfully lobbied the Ministry of Education to mandate Canadian literature in BC high schools. Baird is married to George Bowering, Canada’s first poet laureate.
Christina DeMarco
DeMarco is the former lead planner for the Metro Vancouver Regional Growth Strategy. Prior to working with Metro Vancouver she was a City of Vancouver planner and her main projects included CityPlan (1995) and the City’s Transportation Plan (1997). She also worked in Australia for 10 years on the metropolitan plans for Sydney, Canberra and Perth. DeMarco is a co-author of three planning books, including one titled On a Human Scale: A Life in City Design. She is semi-retired, teaches regional planning at the SFU City Program and also does voluntary sector planning work, including as a member of Friends of Point Grey Village, and housing projects for non-profit groups.
