President’s Message – Winter 2024/2025
Dear patrons,
As we transition to our winter programming, the West Point Grey Community Centre Association (“WPGCCA”) is pleased that this is the 53rd year that we
have been jointly operating the West Point Grey Community Centre with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation (“Park Board”) since 1972. In 2018 we
signed a new Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) to strengthen our relationship The WPGCCA Board appreciates all of our wonderful hardworking community
centre staff, and we look forward to working with them on another great season of Community Centre programs.
Centre Highlights:
- Refund and Cancellation Policy changes – please take a moment to review our new policies.
- As of September 3, 2024, we are piloting the removal of waitlists for all programs.
Program Highlights:
- Pickleball/badminton nets have been recently purchased. Please join us in our new piloted programs for recreational pickleball and badminton drop-in programs!
- Film Camp In A Box is back again this Spring Break with their action-packed and engaging film camps mentored by master filmmakers. Get ready with some popcorn to present your movie on the red carpet!
- Fire & Flower Empowerment Camps are back again this Spring Break! Explore, celebrate, and empower yourself in your incredible transition from youth to adolescence. Learning will be balanced with time in nature, games, and crafts. Many bursaries are available through Fire & Flower!
- Tech Café is back to help you with all your technological questions about your devices!
- Join us in this rocking and high-energy Zumba® Kids Jr. dance program! With specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all the music kids love, they are sure to be grooving and breaking out their best moves!
- Science for Preschoolers & Kids is back for your children to enjoy engaging, hands-on learning and demonstrations, perform simple experiments, and discover how science can help you better understand the world around you!
New Program Offerings:
- Introduction to Children’s Handbuilding: Clay Creations: Learn basic hand-building techniques, and how to make functional and sculptural items. Every piece becomes a unique masterpiece!
- Morning Deep Stretch Yoga: This is a slow paced, and gentle class that targets all areas of the body!
- Gentle Kundalini Yoga + Gong Bath: Join us for a powerful and transformative practice that brings you back to your heart and true nature!
- Somatics and Sound Healing: Come join a gentle restorative movement class featuring somatic exercises with restorative yoga poses.
- Watercolour Paint Nights: Enjoy a watercolour event where each night has a different theme! Even if you have never held a brush before, you are in the right place to learn how to discover your inner artsy side!

Spanish Conversation with Rossana: Come and practice your conversations in Spanish with Rossana on Tuesday nights in the Library! Interact with others as you learn basic conversational skills.
- Continuum – Somatic Movement Therapy: Continuum builds on intuitive, fully embodied movement that is novel and refreshing. Through the breath and sound vibration, break through the physical and emotional “obstacles” that limit the flow of healing energy in the body. This series will focus on alleviating joint compression and overall body tension. Whether you’ve practiced continuum or you are seeking to learn about the work and its benefits for the first time, you are welcome!
- Learning Birds – Parent & Tots: Come along with your little one to learn, grow, and socialize. Parents/guardians and their tots can enjoy a fun-filled circle and story time with our teacher!
- Come join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays in our new Mah Jong program! Come and learn this Chinese game about numbered and pictured tiles. Table and tiles provided.
- Yoga Mommies & Babies: Come join us for a morning yoga session with your little one. This program focuses on fine and gross motor skills, sensory and physical exploration, and parent-child bonding.
- Maevann Art Lessons: Dive into fun and engaging art lessons where children will learn a variety of art mediums, from painting to clay, in a fun and inspiring environment. Unleash your child’s creative spirit alongside fellow young artists!
